5 Tips to finding a good interior painter

Finding a good painter can be easy but there are a few things that you should be aware about when you are considering who to hire.

The Contract

Many painting companies will make you sign a contract for the work that is to be done.  A good contract would protect both the buyer and the painting contractor.  But let me be very clear…

The contract that you sign will likely only protect the company that you hire.  Be sure to read the fine print.  By signing on the dotted line you will likely be giving up any right to take legal action if the painter causes damage.

The Painting Team

If you have a large job be sure that there is a big enough team that will be able to get the job done quickly.  Having your home painted is a big inconvenience so you don’t want the work to take all day long or worse.  Be sure that there are enough workers to knock out the first coat of paint quickly so that the second coat can be completed later in the same day.

Masking the ceilings

Ask of the painter will mask the ceilings to create a straight line.  It is certainly a red flag if they do this.  Good painters with lots of experience will never need to tape lines.  A good painter will have mastered the art of “cutting” to make straight lines without the need for paint.  You can also expect better results if tape is not used because because the use of painters tape can cause bleeding onto the taped surface.

References

Be sure to ask for references.  Better yet… do some research online to make sure that your painter has a good reputation and good feedback from clients.
